Know The Limitations Of Water For A Body

  • INTRODUCTION:

The symbol of water is H2O and it is made up of one atom of oxygen and two atoms of hydrogen with covalent bonds. It is the main component of all organisms and it is fluid in nature. Even though clear drinking water has zero calories it is vital to all. Even today many people are inaccessible to get safe and adequate drinking water. Our body will not function properly without water.

  • HOW WATER WORKS IN THE BODY:
    • Body temperature is regulated by water and keeps hydrated.
    • It moistens organs like mouth, Eyes, and nose.
    • Water gives protection to organs and tissues.
    • It helps in lubrication of joints.
    • Many diseases are prevented with the help of water.
    • It helps to transport waste products for our body.
    • Various nutrients and oxygen to cells are transported with the help of water.
    • It controls many chemical and metabolic reactions and helps in digestions.

  • IMPORTANCE OF WATER WITH RESPECT TO AGE:

Different stages of life require varying amount of water.

FLUID REQUIREMENT ACCORDING TO AGE-WISE:

0-6 Months 700 ml/d of water from mother’s milk
7-12 Months 800 ml/d from milk along with complementary foods and drinks
1-3 Years 1300 ml/d
3-8 Years 1700 ml/d
9-13 Years Boys-2400 ml/d
Girls-2100 ml/d
14-18 Years Boys-3300 ml/d
Girls- 2300 ml/d
19-70 years Men-3700 ml/d
Women-27 ml/d
  • FLUID REQUIREMENT OF PREGNANT & LACTATING WOMEN:

Pregnant and lactating mother’s needs extra 300 ml/d compared to non pregnant woman. Around 2.3 lt/d is needed to become rehydrated.

  • FLUID REQUIREMENT IN INFANTS AND CHILDREN:

Infants easily get dehydrated as they are unable to express thirst feeling. Children should get enough water due to more physical activity.

  • FLUID REQUIREMENT IN ADULTS:

Body water percentage decreases with age which increases the risk of      dehydration in adults.

  • NORMAL WATER:

Chlorine content of normal water ranges between 19.30 and 19.50 parts per thousand and lies within + 0.001 per thousand.

  • MINERAL WATER:

Water that contains minerals and others dissolved particles like salts, sulfur compounds and gasses, which is different in taste and therapeutically important.

  • DRINKING WATER:

People who access safe drinking water is only 89% of populations, and only four billion people are getting tap water, 2.3 billion people are dependent on well water and still 1.8 billion people are unable to get safe drinking water. Unclean water causes infections like diarrhea, cholera, and typhoid.

  • VILLAGE AND HYGIENE TO ALL:

Rural people are suffering from poor sanitation and hygiene which leads to diarrhoeal diseases.

WASH-water, sanitation, and hygiene is a key to good health for all. Proper sanitation and hygiene reduce illness and improves our health.

  • LIMITATIONS OF DIABETIC:

Diabetes reduces fluid and causes dehydration. So diabetic should intake sufficient water.

  • LIMITATIONS OF DIALYSIS:

Fluid restriction is needed during and post dialysis. As damaged kidney are unable to excrete extra fluid from the body and which leads to swelling, high blood pressure and thus affects our heart. Fluid intake of dialyzed patients depends on urine output, weight gain, and edema.

  • SOME PATIENTS REQUIRE MORE AND SOME LESS WHY?:

Diarrhea and vomiting losses fluid from our body thus we need to drink enough water and ORS. Conditions like fatigue and tiredness, digestives problems and stomach ulcer increases demand for water.

On the other hand, excess removal of water from the body is not possible in conditions like heart failure, kidney, and liver problems and in adrenal diseases, so we have to limit our water intake.

Therefore no doubt water is our life but still some cases you should be cautious about drinking.
