Dietary Requirements For A Dengue Patient

Dengue fever is an infectious disease caused by the bite of Aedes aegypti mosquito. The common symptom is a fever that occurs within more than 3 days and patients usually experience pain in the bones. The trick is to eat certain foods that contain lots of vitamins and nutrients. Whenever this condition occurs then the following dietary guidelines will help to replenish the nutrients in the body and also help to improve the state of a patient and leads to the recovery state…

First and foremost requirement is……….

Fluids:

Dengue patients are advised to drink plenty of fluids throughout the whole day.  Besides that, we should drink fruit juices, lime juice, and coconut water as it will help to flush out the toxins from the body in the form of urine.  We should drink fresh orange juice which will boost our digestive system and as well as it also promotes  antibodies for an earlier recovery.

Two fluids which are most important. These are:

Lemon Juice: It helps to remove the toxins from the body due to the presence of dengue virus. Lemon juice is the best food for dengue fever. Lemon juice helps to remove the virus through urine and thus helps in reducing its load in the body.

Fruit juices: A good amount of Vitamin C rich foods for dengue fever is essential. Vitamin C is the most important vitamin for the boosting of our immune system and essential for the formation of adrenaline hormones. Vitamin C foods like strawberries, guava, kiwi and papaya can help in the production of lymphocytes. It has also a direct effect on bacteria and viruses.

High protein diet:

Protein rich diet is necessary to build up the new cells and also for the recovery of those cells which are damaged by this condition. Protein rich foods like milk and other dairy products and eggs are recommended. Dengue patients can also have a good amount of fish and chicken to help battle this virus.

High-calorie diet:

A high-calorie diet is recommended even after the fever is cured to restore all the resource of vitamins, minerals, proteins, fats in the body. In dengue, the liver of the patient is targeted and it’s function is hampered. So it is needed to supply the body with easily digestible food. So that the body doesn’t have to do an extra effort of converting complex food particles into simple forms. Cereals in the form of porridge will help to provide a certain amount of strength to the dengue patient in the easily digestible form.

Inclusion of Vegetables and Fruits:

In the case of dengue patients there is severe loss of vitamins and minerals from the body. That’s why an affected person must include lots of fresh vegetables and fruits in their diet to replenish all the nutrients in their body. Among all the fruits the most prime and effective fruit is papaya.

Papaya and it’s leaf extract:

Researchers have found that enzymes, Chymopapinand papain enzymes present in the papaya leaf  help to improve the platelet count in the affected person.  Papaya leaf can help to regenerate platelets and white blood cells. So papaya juice is a natural cure for dengue fever. Papaya as a fruit is also known to be good for the digestive system. Besides that fruits like berries, pomegranates, oranges, tomatoes, grapes are rich in anti-oxidants should be included in the diet due to their capacity of quenching free radicals which are responsible for damaging tissues and also low-level of platelet count.

The foods which must not be taken during this severe pathological condition are:

  • During dengue fever, the saturated fats, refined sugar, and processed foods are need to be strictly avoided. Patients are not to be taken aerated beverages, junk, and oily foods. They should stop consuming raw food, especially vegetables in the form of salads. It is important to wash the vegetables carefully before consuming, as they may result in parasitic infection into the colon which can further lead to a decrease in the total platelet count.
