Why Fatty Liver

In our meal habits, in most cases, one sees high consumption of fast food & that can be highly toxic to the liver and other internal organs. Some times this happens due to high doses of alcohol consumption, but mostly it happens for normal folks and is due to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Few studies say that increase in the fat content of liver cells is associated with insulin resistance, which in turn is associated with the metabolic syndrome. The development of non-alcoholic fatty liver is intimately associated with and is probably caused by Overweight problems, Obesity, Diabetes etc. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is considered a manifestation of the metabolic syndrome. Insulin resistance syndrome is a collection of biochemical abnormalities and increased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, total imbalance of lipid profile, 7 to 18% body weight increase by eating at least two fast-food-based meals per day for four weeks to six weeks.

Fatty liver & enzymes

It is observed that changes in enzymes, such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and  hepatic triglyceride content (HTGC) were used to indicate liver damage. Abnormally high ALT levels are frequently seen in high alcoholic as well as hepatitis -C virus infected group. HTGC measures fatty acid levels in the liver; too much fat in the liver leads to a condition called fatty liver disease.
