Pimples (Acne Vulgaris) is common among teenagers. They are of main beauty concern at this age. It also occurs in women during fertile stage of their life. It can be found in the form of tiny blister like spots affecting the skin of face, forehead, neck and sometimes shoulders.

Abnormal accumulation of sebum, an oily substance to nourish skin, leads to these pimples. Application of synthetic and oily cosmetics, use of oral contraceptives may induce this problem. Most of the acne clears up by the age of 22 to 25. The following measures help control and prevent this condition.

  • Begin the day with a glass of lime juice with honey for 3 to 4 weeks that will help in diluting the sebum and provides Vitamin C.
  • Include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily diet.
  • Prefer whole fruit than juices.
  • Drink atleast 10 – 12 glasses of plain water a day.
  • Avoid items made out of maida, besan, urad dal, fried and oily stuff for 3 to 4 weeks, until your acne settles down.
  • Use skimmed dairy products, like skim milk and skim curd.
  • Avoid high calorie food (sweets, pudding, ice creams, chocolate, oily stuff, ghee).
  • Avoid junk food – pizza, burger, hot dogs and carbonated beverages.
  • Wash your face regularly with mild soap and water.
  • Apply herbal paste made out of neem leaves and turmeric in 3:1 ratio to the pimples at bed time.
  • Groom your hair properly, so that your hair does not touch your forehead or face, as this increases pimples.
  • Do not squeeze or prick at the acne spots, as they will become larger and inflamed and may land up in scarring.
  • Keep your bowels clean. Do not allow to constipate.
