Fruits are body’s natural healer as it is packed with essential vitamins, mineral and fibers.

What is fruit?

In the flower bearing plant, the seed-bearing structure is found this is known as fruit. It has shape, color, taste varies.

Structure of the fruits-  

The outer edible layer surrounds the seeds, which is formed from the ovary. The outer layer is known as pericarp. Pericarp has 3 layers

Winter fruits – winter is different as per the zone.  Even in the same country, temperate varies a lot. In tropical countries more fleshy fruits like papaya, jack fruit, mango available where the temperature is not low and humidity is high even in winter. In dessert, land like middle-east the humidity is less, there is a distinct fall in winter temperature especially at night. The dry fruits like a raisin, prunes etc. countries which have high mountains and more near to the poles like England, Japan, Scandinavia, northern side of India winter is very harsh and summer is no so warm. The fruits like apple, orange, blueberry, strawberry, raspberry, grapes are widely available.

  • Apple – Apple is the winter fruit, although it is available in the mountains all through the years 100 gm apple provide 52 kcal, 3 ug vitamin A, 6 mg calcium.
  • Red grapes – Red grapes are available in cold weather temperature between 18- 10* c. It has high antioxidant, antiviral and antibacterial property. 100 gm of red grape gives 69 kcal of energy, folate =2 ug, vitamin A 66 IU.
  • Kiwi fruit – It is cultivated in lower temperature (19- 9*C), it is known as Chinese gooseberry. 100gm kiwi provides 255 kcal, calcium 34 mg, potassium 312 mg.
  • Orange – Orange is the winter fruit, especially two types of orange production increase those are the blood orange, Clementine. 100 gm orange provides 47 kcal, vitamin A 11 ug, ca 40 mg.
  • Pomegranate- It is generally cultivated from September to February. 100 gm raw pomegranate gives 83 kcal, Folate 38 ug , choline 7.6 mg .potassium 236 mg.
  • Cranberry – The cranberry is found in low temperature. 100 mg of cranberry gives 46 kcal, vitamin k 5.1 ug, beta carotene 36 ug, vitamin c 13.3 mg.
  • Pear – Pear is also winter fruit, it grows temperature within 20 -15* c. 100 gm pear gives 57 kcal, 7 ug folate, vitamin c 4.4 mg , choline 5.1 mg.
