Measles is one very ancient disease! This virus has a history of killing human since prehistoric era. Before the measles vaccine was discovered, this disease becomes epidemics to every year, and mainly affected the children. It attacks mainly the respiratory tract and in the severe condition, it may lead to encephalitis or pneumonia, the fatal stage. Till today measles is still the deadliest disease in some part of the world, its mainly not because of the virus but the poor nutrition and immunological state makes them fatal to death!

How many types of measles there?

There is two main type of measles found all over the world. The two different virus is known as –Rubeola virus or German measles, and Morbillivirus measles or English measles.

In overall Measles is characterized by a cough, fever, cold, and skin rash all over the body. People have recovered from this disease without any long-lasting health problems. If this disease affects you during your pregnancy, it may cause serious birth defects of the baby. Mainly infants are at a higher risk of picking up measles (since they have not yet been vaccinated).Thus proper vaccination at the early age of life is very important to be protected from this disease.

What are the common symptoms?

The symptoms used to start arriving after 10 to 15 days of the viral attack. It starts with,

  • Red appearance of your eyes.
  • Fever
  • Fatigue and tiredness
  • A cough and cold
  • Rash allover the body(typical reddish bumps)
  • Peeling and irritation of your rashes

There is also a tendency to develop other conditions, while the immunological state of the person is very poor. This are-ear infection, pneumonia, even inflammation of the brain.

What are the treatments (Dietary and drug both)?

  • Generally, it is treated according to its symptoms arrived at the particular patients. Means a symptomatic approach is taken by the physician to treat this disease.
  • The first step from you is to take complete bed rest. This will prevent others to get infected, and taking rest may help your body to strengthen more against infection.
  • Remain isolated from others for at least 10 days or more.
  • As fever is sort of dehydrating state, the fluid balance is important in this case. You can take warm milk if tolerated, Fruit juices etc are good options.
  • Lemon juices or orange juices daily basis will help you to treat anorexic conditions, also able to supply enough fluid.
  • Sometimes our old members suggested taking milk with honey and turmeric powder. Well, this is one very good health drink for boosting up your immunity.
  • Barley water can be soothing option to take many times.
  • Do not take spicy food, fried food as well.
  • Soft bland diet can be best. But add variety to it, so that eating desire may remain there.
  • As condition improved, add all fruits and green in the diet so that proper vitamins and minerals can be given to him/her. It will help more to recover.
  • Ample protein must be there from the beginning.
  • Lean meat, poultry, fish etc with less oil preparation can be best.
  • Avoid caffeine products and alcohol as well.
