Saltwater fish             

Saltwater fishes are those fish that spend most of their life in salt water like salt lakes or ocean

Sweetwater fish

Sweet water fish also known as fresh water fish, theses are natural occurring fish which is found in the  bogs , ponds, ice sheet , river, steam.  Fresh water fish is charecterized by low concentration of the dissolved salt.

Which is better salt water or sweet water fish?

  1. Iodine content- Salt water fish contain more iodine than that of the fresh water fish. The iodine aid in the function of the thyroid gland hence it help to prevent goitire . With the help of the Iodine thyroid gland can produce thyroxin and triodothyronine. These hormone play major role in growth and development of the body and it also help in maturation of the reproductive system.
  2. Omega 3 fatty acid- Salt water fish contain more omega 3 than that of fresh water fish. This occurs because ocean water is more cooler than that of the fresh water bodies. Omega 3 are docosahexonic acid , Eicosapentonic acid , Alpha linolenic acid. The omega 3 is helpful to reduce cardio vascular disorders.
  3. Harmful chemical- Harmful chemical like chlordane , polychlorinated biphenyl, methyl mercury are low in the salt water fish. The river fish are more contaminated. With urbanization the factory pollutants, domestic waste all are dumped in the river, which pollutes the organism which is living within it.
  4. Neonatal health- The sea fish has more phosphorous content than that of sweet water fish. Phosphorous is the important constituent for neonatal brain neural development. It has been small sea fishes have more phosphorous.
  5. High blood pressure- The patient with high blood pressure should avoid salt water fish as it contain more salt than that of sweet water fish. According to American heart health association the salt intake of patient with moderate and high blood pressure should not be more than 2- 2.5 tsp.
  6. Renal failure- The patient with renal failure should avoid salt water fish as it contains more salt and potassium than that of sweet water fish. Kidney patient who are suffering renal failure should be consume food with low osmolarity. The food with high sodium and potassium can create pressure the nephron.
  7. Taste- The taste of the salt water fish is better than that of fresh water fish. Salt water fish have more oil and salt content which make it tastier.

Salt water fish and sweet water each have it own benefits in different ways. Fish should be consumed once in a day which improves our life expectancy.
