Health Effects Due To Seasonal Vegetables Adulterations By Hormonal Injections

Seasonal Vegetable Adulterations by Hormonal Injections

The vegetables is key to stable food due to its loaded vitamins and mineral contents. Vegetable adulteration means to make impure or to make its quality inferior by administering harmful injections which are a new marketing policy for suppliers to increase production and to earn profits in a short time by compromising our health.

Seasonal veggies are injected with hormones to yield fresh, bigger and mature vegetables by Indian farmers. The common hormone used for this purpose is oxytocin also known as “hormone of love” used in pregnancy and lactation for easy delivery and also to induce early puberty among girls.

The naturally occurring oxytocin is injected to the immature roots of veggies to produce bigger, greener and adequate fresh vegetables from the natural sizes. These enlarged varieties of vegetables look more attractive and appealing but before selecting these vegetables we should think carefully about the detrimental effects of these vegetables to our health as these are not natural vegetables neither produced organically these are hormonal injected veggies just to speed up the maturity and to plump the veggies before delivery to the market. The common veggies produced by using oxytocin injections are pumpkin, brinjal, bottle gourds, bitter gourds, and cucumber.

These injected vegetables did not affect our health immediately but regular consumption of these vegetables over a long period of time results in hormonal imbalance, sterility, harms the reproductive system, nervous breakdown and neurotic problems like loss of memory even reduces the life span etc.

These hormonal injections are very cheap and easily available and are used in place of fertilizers and the vegetables swell up too faster by injecting these. Though India’s health ministry banned this oxytocin hormone instead of these vendors are frequently using this cheap injection which is detrimental to our health.

Some other chemicals which are also used to increase the production are copper sulphate and calcium carbide to increase colours and induce early ripening of the vegetables. These are also adverse effects on health.

Nowadays the Drug Controller General of India is strictly regulating and monitoring the manufacture and distribution of oxytocin to check its use. The State Government has also appealed the farmers to avoid the use of oxytocin in vegetable production as harms our health in the long run.

Lastly, there is no technique available till now to distinguish a natural and oxytocin injected vegetable but to reduce its harmful effect clean the vegetables properly and also cook them at the appropriate temperature and better to choose organic vegetables which is bit costly but healthy.
