4 Proper Brushing Techniques
Everyone brushes his/her teeth daily. Actually brushing our teeth is basically the first step for keeping yourself healthy, fit and fine. Proper brushing takes almost 2 minutes i.e 120 seconds but most of the adults do not even brush for 2 minutes as they are in hurry for leaving home for their own work. To get a feel that you properly brush your teeth or not you can use a stopwatch. We are brushing our teeth for years and years but still if you go for a dental check up then the dentist might suggest you to brush you teeth properly and may recommend you to go for certain medicines. The facts like what type of toothpaste one should use? How many times one should brush? Which type of brush should one use? Are the above discussed facts really very important to know? Yes off-course it is important to know. But now the question comes is the how one should brush? What are the brushing techniques? Do you know before I tell you? To properly brush your teeth, use short, gentle strokes, paying extra attention to the gum line, hard-to-reach back teeth and areas around fillings, crowns or other restoration.
Concentrate on thoroughly cleaning each section as follows:
- Clean the outer surfaces of your upper teeth, then your lower teeth.
- Clean the inner surfaces of your upper teeth, then your lower teeth.
- Clean the chewing surfaces.
- For fresher breath, be sure to brush your tongue too.
STEPS FOR PROPER BRUSHING
- STEP 1- Place brush at 45 degree angle to the gum. Use gently in the circular motion.
- STEP 2 – Brush the inside and outside surface of all the upper teeth.
- STEP 3 – Brush the inside and outside surface to all the lower teeth.
- STEP 4 – For the chewing surfaces use a firm back and forth motion.
How often should I change my brush?
You should change your brush after every 3 months as the bristles can collect germs in it and it is unhealthy for us.
What type of toothbrush should I use?
Most dental professionals agree that a soft-bristled brush is best for removing plaque and debris from your teeth. Small-headed brushes are also preferable since they can better reach all areas of the mouth, including hard-to-reach back teeth. For many a powered toothbrush is a good alternative. It can do a better job of cleaning teeth, particularly for those who have difficulty brushing.
How Important is the toothpaste do I use?
Toothpaste is very important element. Most of the people use toothpaste on daily basis which is sensitive to our gums but which should be mostly used when some problem happens in our gums because when you will suffer from a toothache then the same toothpaste may not prove to be successful. So, one should approach the dentist first and should use the toothpaste recommended by the dentist.
