Home Remedy to Relieve Flatulence (Gas)

Flatulence, otherwise called as gas, is defined as accumulation of gas in the alimentary canal. This accumulated gas should expel through rectum. Accumulation ends up in bloating, pain and discomfort. Herbs and spices have long been used in ancient medicine as agents to expel gas. These herbs and spices are available in our own kitchen!

Herein are described some simple home remedies to remove flatulence.

Ajwain:

Ajwain has been used in the long run in the treatment of various digestive disorders including flatulence and indigestion. For relieving gas from the stomach, the seeds have to be eaten with bête leaves. A teaspoon of these seeds with little rock salt is a household remedy for indigestion and gas formation. 1 to 3 drops / day, of  volatile oil extracted from the seeds is also useful in indigestion and gas formation.  The water distilled from the seeds is an excellent remedy for bringing back the appetite that was lost due to flatulence.

 

Aniseed

Aniseed, commonly called as saunf is the best agent to relieve gas. Saunf tea or saunf infusion can be prepared by boiling a teaspoon of aniseed in 200ml of water. This tea is very effective in expelling gas when taken with honey.

 

Asafoetida

Asafoetida is a magic ingredient to push off gas from the intestine. A pinch of asafoetida and a pinch of salt in 5 – 10 ml of warm water provides good relief from flatulence. It can also be included while preparing dal and pulses to prevent building gas due to consumption of pulses.

 

Buttermilk

Thin buttermilk is a very simple and effective remedy for relieving gas in the stomach. For best results, ¼ Tsp of pepper powder and cumin powder should be added to buttermilk.

 

Cinnamon

Cinnamon stimulates digestion and relieves gas in stomach. Coarsely powdered and boiled in a glass of water with a pinch of pepper powder and honey, is used a carminative medicine for flatulence and indigestion. A tablespoon of this water should be taken half an hour after meals.

 

Ginger

Ginger is one of the ancient medicine for treating digestive issues and flatulence. Ginger included in food in any form is effective in removing gas. Chewing a fresh piece of ginger after meals regularly is a preventive measure against flatulence.

 

Mint

Mint possesses anti gastric activity. The leaf juice is a good appetizer. Its value is increased by missing equal quantity of honey and lemon juice. This mixture forms a very effective remedy for indigestion and gaseous distension of the stomach.

 

Cucumber

This cool vegetable helps greatly to relieve acidity and gas in the stomach. The juice of the cucumber is a medicine for excellence for hyperacidity and gastric ulcer, which are one of the reasons for gas formation. Cucumber juice should be given to the patient every 2 hours in doses of 120ml to 180ml at a time in treating the above conditions.

 

Tender coconut Water

Tender coconut water is a carminative food of great value. It is an excellent remedy for gas formation and heartburn. It gives the stomach necessary rest and provides vitamins and minerals necessary to heal ulcer. The stomach will be greatly helped in coming back to normal condition.
