Honestly speaking, I am one of them! Every time you have to clean your shoulder full of dandruff. This dandruff and dry scalp problem occur because in winter your skin becomes dry and dead skin cells start surfacing. This not only limited to your skin, but it also affects your scalp. These dead cells from scalp convert into tiny flakes and they start falling off. So these white flakes on your shoulder are dandruff only!!!
Dandruff is a common problem but it has embarrassed everyone. And yes, it may arise due to many other factors too like not washing your scalp properly, or not using good hair products. But don’t take this dandruff very lightly as it has many adverse effects. The major backdrop is the hair fall and when dandruff gets sever or not treated well rashes on your scalp may also occur.

So, to reduce and treat dandruff, you’ve got to use the right hair care products but this is not alone sufficient. You can fix dandruff problems in winter by following some easy tips at home. Let’s begin:
1. Moisturize & Massage Your Scalp
Maintaining enough moisture on your scalp in winter is the best option to remove scalp dryness. In the winter season, due to cold breeze reduce moisture from your scalp and this causes itchiness and hair loss. For moisturizing your scalp, apply the best quality oil once or twice a week on your scalp. Gently massage with warm coconut oil for a few minutes. This will increase blood circulation and also provide you some relaxation from stress.
Avoid heavy oils which will leave your scalp and hair greasy. Use essential oils such as Argan and Peppermint oil helps prevent dandruff very well. Tea tree oil and coconut oil are best for scalp and hair growth. This moisturizing and massaging your scalp will nourish your hair. Thus this soothing procedure will help break up dry cell flakes and soothe your scalp. Just be sure not to scratch your head or rub too hard.
2. Gently Exfoliate
In winter, dead skin cells tend to accumulate and block your follicles. If you live in a hard water area, this can get worse. If you color your hair regularly, the color deposits may also affect your scalp. Remember, ordinary shampoos may make dandruff worse by drying out your scalp. Because of these reasons, it is important to remove dead skin and dandruff flakes regularly with a gentle cleanser made for hair.
3. Avoid Shampoo Daily
In winter, avoid washing your hair too many times with shampoo. This will dry your scalp for sure and can lead to dandruff. Use good quality conditioner and shampoo and wash them properly with cool water, but it’s winter so use lukewarm water instead of hot water.

During the winter season, we always forget to drink water. This dehydrates your skin and hair which causes more dandruff. Drinking enough water will definitely hydrate your scalp properly. Doctors recommend consuming 5 liters of water daily is good for your health and skin. If not 5 then at least go 4 liters, we know it’s winter! 😉
5. Increase Vitamins & Omega 3 Intake
Eating a well-balanced diet not only improves your waistline but also helps to treat dandruff. Taking the proper amount of Vitamin B and Zinc in your diet helps you maintain good scalp health. Vitamins and Omega-3 fatty acids play a crucial role in the heart, lungs and immune system. They are vital for skin health.
Their deficiency can cause skin dryness, dry hairs and dandruff. Omega 3 fatty acids reduce inflammation and help in relieving skin irritation and make cell membranes. Walnuts, green leafy vegetables, eggs are a good source of Vitamin and for Omega 3 fatty acids intake consume flaxseeds, chia seeds and fatty fish.
6. Stop Taking Stress
The most important tip which you should definitely follow is avoiding stress as much as you can. As stress is not good for your health too. One of the major causes of dandruff is extreme stress which may also lead to hair loss. Make sure you give enough rest to your mind by avoiding overthinking and by eating healthily. Stress any existing condition, so mild dandruff becomes severe when you’re dealing with too much strain. Cut down on the stress, through exercise, yoga, sufficient sleep and a healthy diet. Keep that negativity away.
7. Don’t Colour Your Hair
When you are suffering from the dandruff problem, then using hair color products can worsen your scalp condition or may damage your scalp. As these hair color products contain various chemicals.
The same goes for various hair styling products like hair gel and hair spray, avoid them in winter as they make your scalp drier. Your scalp can easily be affected by hair product chemicals and this might result in the itchy scalp which in turn gives rise to dandruff.
