Vitiligo And Diet

Vitiligo is a severe skin condition that reduces the pigmentation in some patches of the skin. There are many causes of vitiligo like contact with harmful chemicals, autoimmune condition, genetic predisposition, oxidative stress and some neurological causes. As such there are no known treatments for vitiligo, however certain dietary changes can help arrest the condition but not reverse.

Foods to Include:

Foods that you should include in your diet are Carrot, spinach, drumstick, fenugreek, ridge gourd, onion, beetroot, bitter gourd, radish, apricots, dates, papaya, walnut, grapes, mango, almonds, chillies and pistas.

Foods to Exclude:

Orange, guava, melons, brinjal, tomato, tamarind, garlic, prunes, gooseberry, milk and milk products, fish, red meat, fizzy drinks, oily and spice .

Check your food allergies sometimes gluten intolerance or nut allergies could also cause vitiligo. A diet rich in antioxidants can help in reducing the effect of free radicals. Fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants as we all know, including at least 3 vegetables and 2 fruits a day could be very helpful. Avoid eating processed foods and grilled foods and foods rich in colorants and preservatives.

Quercetin found in onion and apples have been found to stimulate melanin production and helps in vitiligo.

Detox Juice 

  • 1 carrot cleaned and grated
  • 4-5 spinach leaves
  • 1/2 an onion
  • a pinch of salt and pepper to taste

Blend all the ingredients in a mixie into a smoothie, add water according to the required consistency. And drink it first thing in the morning.

Though vitiligo is not curable, it could be arrested in whatever the present stage it is in.
