Breastmilk is the best milk for first 6 month of the baby.

Breast milk is the milk which is produced by the female human from the breast to feed new born baby. This milk is the primary source of nutrition for new born because in that time they are unable eat or digest any other food.

Cholesterol – 0.016 gm /dl

Polyunsaturated fatty acid – 0.6 gm/dl

Total protein -1.1 gm/dl

Casein – 0.4 gm/ dl

Lactoferrin – 0.2 gm/dl

IgA- 0.1 gm/dl

IgG- 0.001 gm/dl

Lactose – 7 gm/dl

Foods that increase breast milk production

There are some foods which enhances the quality of the milk.

  1. Carrot – Carrot juice in the breakfast or carrot soup in the main meal works wonderful for lactation. Carrot contain vitamin A , it boost the lactation .
  2. Fenugreek seed – sprouted fenugreek seed enhance the quality of the milk and it also help to get rid of post pregnancy constipation. In breakfast pancake containing fenugreek seed can be consumed during lactation.
  3. Fennel seed- The fennel seed boost the quantity of the milk , they are digestive and it helps to control baby colic. Fennel seed can be added in the milk or tea. Fennel seeds can be used as a seasoning and also as a vegetable filler.
  4. Apricot – during and post pregnancy apricot help to maintain the hormonal balance within our body. Apricot is also rich in calcium and fibre.
  5. Drum stick- Drumstick contain high calcium and iron, it is good for lactation. It helps to boost immunity and our nervous system.
  6.   Almond – It is rich in vitamin E and omega 3. Vitamin E helps to get rid of itching effect on the stretch mark. Omega 3 helps to boost the lactation boosting hormone. Crushed almond in the milk is highly effective.
  7. Oatmeal- Oatmeal is loaded with fibre and energy. It contain fibre which aid in digestion.  A bowl full of oat meal in breakfast is very healthy. Oat meal biscuit can opt as a snack.
  8. Salmon – Salmon contain omega 3 and EFA (essential fatty acid). Salmon is highly nutritious it boost lactation hormone. Salmon can be consumed as grilled or roasted form.
  9. Bottle gourd- Bottle gourd is the summer vegetable, water content is high. Bottle gourd tries to hydrate the lactating mother’s body. It also helps to increase the quantity of the milk. Bottle gourd juice helps to normalize blood sugar level after pregnancy.
  10. Garlic – Garlic contain a chemical which helps to boost lactation. The garlic also prevents different type of cancer. Stir- fried garlic cloves can be added to the soup.
  11. Barley- Barley help to boost lactation and keeps the body hydrated. Barley can be boiled with water and can be consume throughout the day.

Breastfeeding early stage of life is highly essential it cannot be replace by bottle feeding. Breast feeding should be encouraged.
